A group of farmers has introduced a solar-powered irrigation system that is helping increase crop production while reducing dependence on expensive fuel-powered water pumps.
The initiative, launched by a local farming cooperative, uses solar panels to power water pumps that draw water from nearby wells and reservoirs. The system allows farmers to irrigate their crops throughout the dry season, ensuring a steady supply of vegetables, maize, tomatoes, and peppers.
Before adopting the technology, many farmers struggled with high fuel costs and irregular rainfall, which often led to poor harvests. Since installing the solar-powered pumps, they report healthier crops, lower production costs, and improved yields.
"We no longer worry about buying fuel every week," said one of the cooperative members. "The savings have allowed us to invest more in quality seeds and fertilizers."
