Nigerian men see women as lesser humans. Even the laws are designed to favour men - Actress Kate Henshaw

Actress Kate Henshaw believes that Nigerian men tend to view women as inferior.
She points out that the Bible mentions a woman was created from a man's side, suggesting that she should stand alongside him. However, she argues that the patriarchal mindset of many Nigerian men leads them to treat women as lesser beings.
"While God created both man and woman, and yes, the man was made first, the woman was taken from the side—not from above to dominate or from below to be subservient, but to exist beside him. They are meant to thrive together, raise children, and grow as equals. Yet, in Nigeria, women are often seen as less than human. When you travel abroad, the contrast is stark.
There's a perception that women are seen merely as objects. Even our laws reflect this bias; for example, the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act tends to favor men. A man is considered justified in disciplining his wife. Additionally, while a man marrying a foreign woman can easily secure a passport for her, the same is not true for a woman marrying a foreign man, who faces numerous hurdles in securing a passport for him in Nigeria. What does this say about our society?" she stated.
